About
AUROVILLE
Auroville takes its name from Sri Aurobindo, the evolutionary philosopher, epic poet, playwright and a social & political thinker. Variously defined as a City of Universal Culture, the City of the Future and the City the Earth Needs, Auroville was set on course as a unique international experiment of human unity by The Mother, Sri Aurobindo’s spiritual collaborator. Today, people from 60 countries including the G20 nations, from across India and the bio region live together. Foreseeing the crisis of humanity and the plight of cities worldwide, Auroville was started with a city plan and a Charter. The Mother commissioned the architect Roger Anger to prepare a city plan integrating the social & cultural, education and the arts, economy, design and architecture, environment, sustainability and sports, all in one unified whole. Auroville’s first Literature Festival takes place from 25 - 27th August, 2023, bringing together some of the best Indian, International and local writers, thinkers and poets and the works of Sri Aurobindo: a legacy we celebrate on his 150th birth anniversary. As the culminating event of the150th year commemoration, we are honoured to have on board the Chennai International Centre and the Valley of Words Literature and Arts International Festival as our festival partners and are grateful for the generous support of the Ministry of Culture and the Auroville Foundation. The two and a half day festival will be held across different pavilions of Auroville’s International Zone campus. www.auroville.org
